Experience wholeness through embodied living.

Providing counseling for children, adolescents, adults, and parents using a trauma-informed, attachment-based, and narrative approach.

A Safe Place for Connection, Curiosity, and Healing

Kalyn uses a whole person, embodied approach to therapy from a trauma, attachment, and narrative perspective. Kalyn truly believes that healing happens in the context of relationships where connection, curiosity, and play abound. She seeks to cultivate a space for her clients to be seen and to feel safe, as they honestly examine their own stories and name the patterns and harm that keep them stuck. It is in this place that we become more human, more ourselves, more whole, more free to love and to long.

Meet Kalyn

Kalyn is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor. She received her Masters degree from Wheaton College in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2015. Kalyn has wide range of experience in both private practice and community mental health. Prior to that, Kalyn worked as direct care staff at a residential home for teenagers.

In her freetime, Kalyn takes play seriously. She enjoys being outdoors and exploring both near and far. She takes pride in being the self-proclaimed “best aunt ever” to her 8 nieces and nephews. She has a Golden Retriever named Nakia that she hopes will one day be a therapy dog.

Approaches

  • Attachment therapy focuses on the relationships we have with our caregivers and how those connections shape us. In simple terms, it helps people understand how the care they received or lack of care when they were young can affect how they relate to others as they grow up.

  • EMDR is a therapy that helps individuals recover from trauma. The therapist guides the person to recall distressing memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping. This can reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories and facilitate healing.

  • TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the principles of TBRI® were developed for the caregiver child relationship, they can also be used to increase trust and safety in all relationships.

  • Trauma-focused narrative story work helps people who have experienced harm process their stories in the context of safety, curiosity, and honesty. Through sharing their stories, it helps clients understand the ways they have learned to protect themselves and relate to others, even if those patterns are no longer helpful.

  • TF-CBT is a type of therapy specifically designed to help children and adolescents cope with the effects of traumatic experiences, like abuse or neglect, by teaching them skills to manage their emotions and thoughts related to the trauma, often involving their parents as well to provide support and guidance. Children and teens learn to tell their story in a safe and empowering context.

  • Somatic Therapy is a body-centered approach to healing trauma by focusing on the physical sensations in your body related to experiences of harm, rather than just talking about the emotional aspects, allowing you to process and release trapped energy through awareness of your bodily sensations; essentially, it's a way to "listen to your body" to heal from trauma.

  • Providing clinical supervision both individually and in group for LPCs or fully licensed clinicians seeking additional support.

“After years of trying out therapists to find the right fit, I finally found Kalyn. She is incredible at diving into your story, figuring out reasons for your maladaptive patterns, and leading you to solutions in an encouraging, but honest way.”

 FAQs

  • Psychotherapy, 50 min: $150

  • We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO (BCBC PPO). This means that insurance usually covers at least a portion of therapy services for many clients.

However, not all BCBS PPO plans are the same:

    • For many clients, there is a co-pay or co-insurance, which means you pay a part of the costs.

    • If you have a deductible, it means that you pay for health care services until you reach your deductible amount. At that time, insurance starts to provide coverage for some (or all) of the fees, depending on your plan.

    • We recommend contacting your BCBS PPO to understand your plan.

Other Insurance: For all other insurances, we are considered “out-of-network.”

    • We recommend contacting your insurance company to determine if they will cover mental health counseling for out-of-network providers.

    • If they cover out-of-network providers, follow these steps:

      • Pay for therapy.

      • Ask us for a superbill at the end of each month.

      • Submit reimbursement forms and documentation to your insurance.

    • Your insurance company will determine how much they will reimburse you.

    Self-Pay

    • Some clients prefer to pay for services themselves.

    • For clients in financial hardship, scholarships may be available to help defray the cost for therapy.

    • Please call for more information.

  • Both! Kalyn sees clients in person at her Chicago office. She provides therapy virtually for clients throughout the states of Illinois and Indiana (and on a limited basis in North Carolina). Kalyn will work with you to decide whether virtual or in person is the best fit for you.
